From the moment you step through the door, Higashi-Nakano’s Valentine immerses you in a rich visual world, its walls plastered with cinema posters, shelves packed with DVDs, and the counter peppered with kaiju monster figurines. Run by MUNE, the mind behind the cult apparel label Hardcore Chocolate, the bar serves as an evening gathering spot for lovers of film, pro wrestling, tokusatsu special effects, and manga. While the exterior might seem slightly intimidating at first glance, the atmosphere inside is remarkably unpretentious and friendly, putting solo drinkers and first-time guests right at ease.

Another major draw is the surprisingly substantial quality of the food. Along with his design background, the owner was once a professional cook, and his carefully prepared dishes have earned praise right down to the otoshi appetizer served at the start. To drink, there is an extensive lineup spanning cocktails and beer to wine and hard liquor, letting you sip at your leisure alongside casual counter bites and satisfying plates.

Valentine is open from Wednesday to Sunday, running from 20:00 until 24:00 late at night, with regular closures on Mondays and Tuesdays. Payment is cash only, and pet dogs are notably welcome inside.
